FAQs

What is THE PERFUME OIL COMPANY BOTANICALS range?

BOTANICALS is our essential oil roll-on collection, crafted from botanical essential oils, plant extracts and naturally derived aromatic components. Each fragrance is blended in certified organic MCT oil, celebrating the raw beauty and complexity of nature through scent.

How does the BOTANICALS collection differ from your Fine Fragrance Oils?

The difference lies in both composition and fragrance philosophy.

BOTANICALS fragrances are created using botanical essential oils, plant extracts and naturally derived aromatic components. The result is a scent experience that feels earthy, textural and closely connected to the character of botanical ingredients. These fragrances tend to sit closer to the skin and evolve softly throughout the day.

In contrast, our Fine Fragrance Oils are inspired by iconic designer-style scents. They are crafted using high-quality fragrance compositions designed to create complex, layered perfume structures with stronger projection and extended longevity.

In short:

BOTANICALS = Botanical essential oils and naturally derived aromatics, plant-led expression, softer wear.
Fine Fragrance Oils = Designer-inspired compositions, more structured, stronger projection and longevity.

Both collections are oil-based — the difference lies in the ingredients and overall fragrance style.

What size are the BOTANICALS perfumes available in?

The collection is available in 10mL roll-on perfume oils — perfectly sized for handbags, travel and everyday use.

How long do BOTANICALS fragrances last?

As oil-based perfumes, they typically offer several hours of wear, depending on your skin chemistry and environment. Because they are composed of botanical essential oils and naturally derived aromatics, the scent sits closer to the skin and evolves gently over time.

Are the BOTANICALS products cruelty-free?

Yes. All products from The Perfume Oil Company are cruelty-free.

What fragrance profiles are represented in the collection?

The BOTANICALS range offers a refined spectrum of natural scent profiles:

BRIAR – Feminine, sweet and soothing
Tangerine, Rose, Vanilla & Sandalwood

COVE – Moody, warm and calming
Lavender, Ylang Ylang, Frankincense & Cedarwood

EDEN – Fresh, citrus and uplifting
Bergamot, Lime, Ylang Ylang & Lavandin

IRIS – Sweet, floral and relaxing
Lavender, Geranium, Patchouli & Cedarwood

JASPER – Warm, spicy and grounding
Cardamom, Patchouli, Jasmine & Sandalwood

SOLAIR – Sparkling citrus, cool and refreshing
Lemon Myrtle, Mandarin, Sweet Orange & Bergamot

Can I layer BOTANICALS fragrances?

Absolutely! Because they are oil-based and botanical in character, they layer beautifully. Try pairing a citrus-forward scent with a woody or spicy base to create your own personalised signature fragrance.

Are the ingredients safe to use?

Yes. All BOTANICALS formulations are developed in accordance with International Fragrance Association (IFRA) guidelines and global safety standards.

We regularly review and update our formulations in line with the latest IFRA amendments and regulatory requirements to ensure our products remain safe for their intended use. Each fragrance is carefully composed within recommended dermal limits for skin application.

If you have specific ingredient sensitivities or concerns, we recommend reviewing the ingredient listing or contacting us directly for further information.

What base oil is used in the BOTANICALS range?

Each fragrance is blended in certified organic MCT oil, chosen for its lightweight feel, skin-loving properties and ability to gently carry aromatic ingredients.

Are the BOTANICALS perfumes alcohol-free?

BOTANICALS perfumes are oil-based and do not contain added perfumer’s alcohol like traditional spray fragrances.

As they are created using essential oils and botanical extracts, they may naturally contain trace amounts of naturally occurring alcohol compounds found within plant materials. These are inherent to the botanical ingredients and are not added separately.

How do I apply the roll-on perfume oil?

Apply directly to pulse points such as the wrists, neck and behind the ears. Allow the oil to absorb naturally — there is no need to rub.

Are the BOTANICALS perfumes suitable for sensitive skin?

The range uses certified organic carrier oil and carefully selected aromatic ingredients. However, as with any essential oil-based product, we recommend performing a patch test before full application if you have sensitive skin.

Are the BOTANICALS fragrances vegan?

The BOTANICALS collection is crafted from botanical essential oils, plant extracts and naturally derived aromatic components.

For specific ingredient enquiries, please contact us at customerservice@theperfumeoilcompany.com.au.

How do I choose the right BOTANICALS scent for me?

If you love bright citrus and uplifting energy, try SOLAIR or EDEN.
If you prefer soft florals, explore BRIAR or IRIS.
If you gravitate toward earthy, grounding scents, COVE or JASPER may be your perfect match.

Are these fragrances suitable for daily wear?

Yes, they are designed for everyday use. As they contain essential oils, we recommend applying moderately and avoiding direct sun exposure immediately after applying citrus-based scents.

Where can I purchase the BOTANICALS collection?

The BOTANICALS range is available via selected retailers and online.

Elevate your Living Space

Adding fragrance throughout your home can elevate your environment and empower your mood, while complimenting your decor with a final touch of personality.

Fragrance can provide a lot of benefits, whether it’s creating a relaxing environment after a long day, invigorating your home for an energy boost, or achieving a finishing touch of freshness after your housework is complete.

Home perfume oils are an excellent way to bring fragrance into your home, with multiple diffuser options available on the market to suit every space.

How can I add perfume oil fragrance to my home?

Electric Diffusers: Ultrasonic diffusers disperse oils in a fine mist, which can last hours and are ideal for larger spaces such as living areas.

These diffusers require a power source, however can be wireless with rechargeable battery options available to allow movement around the home.

Reed Diffusers: A more traditional option, reed diffusers use sticks or reeds to absorb and disperse fragrance over time. They’re low-maintenance, don’t require power, and ideal for smaller spaces like bathrooms.

Fragrance Oil Burners:  A few drops of perfume oil can be added to water in an oil burner, in order to release fragrance throughout your home. They require a tea light candle to heat the fragrance, so may not be suitable where open flames aren’t practical.

Wool Laundry Balls: Fragrance doesn’t just have to be dispersed through the air in your home- adding a few drops of perfume oils to wool laundry balls prior to drying your linens can add another layer of fragrance to your space. Wool laundry balls can also be placed in your closet and drawers for on-going freshness.

People are often looking for the most natural products possible, as we all want to be more sustainable and protect the health of the planet and ourselves. However, what do words like ‘natural’, ‘clean’ and ‘no tox’ really mean, and how can you be given all the facts before making your decision?

What is “clean” and “no/low tox”?

Products are marketed as clean or low/no tox to appeal to eco-concious consumers. Many of these products claim to contain no toxic ingredients and are typically created from more sustainable brands and businesses with higher levels of traceability. There is no legal definition or legislation around the labelling of products as “clean” or “low/no tox” however, so it is always best to check the ingredient list for further information if you have concerns about a product working for your sensitivities.

Natural vs Synthetic

In most areas of life, synthetic products and materials are seen as lower quality or less eco-conscious than natural products.

When it comes to fragrances, there is no blanket rule. Depending on the source of the fragrance (natural or synthetic), either option can be better or worse for you and the planet. Most fragrance producers use a combination of natural and synthetic fragrances to create their perfumes.

Understanding each category can help you make decisions based on your preference, your ethics, and your health.

Natural Fragrances

Derived completely from natural sources, natural fragrances are sourced from, well, nature! These can be extracted from the essential oils of certain flora and plant life, and surprisingly, also from some animal sources (such as musk).

Natural fragrances and ingredients (such as essential oils) can be harvested from sustainable or non-sustainable practices depending on the producer.

Some natural fragrances can also cause reactions or contain toxic elements or heavy metals, despite being derived from natural sources. Classing a product as natural does not mean it is safe for everyone to use- many natural products can cause allergies.

It is important that consumers understand their bodies and check the ingredient list for products to determine their compatibility or allergens present.

Synthetic Fragrances

Synthetic fragrances are created in laboratories to mimic natural fragrances.

The safety of synthetic fragrances can vary depending on their chemical composition and how they are used- Not all products are created equal.

It is important for producers to source only from high-quality, trusted suppliers and to avoid using any synthetics that are deemed toxic (such as phthalates and parabens) to ensure a healthy product for consumers as well as the environment.

Using poor quality or volatile synthetic ingredients can also impact the environment and release Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) into the atmosphere.

Why do brands use synthetic fragrances?

Perfume brands use synthetic fragrances for several reasons:

  1. Cost-Effectiveness: Natural ingredients can be expensive and scarce- thousands of dollars a gram to buy. Synthetic fragrances allow companies to produce perfumes for an acceptable market cost while maintaining quality.
  2. Consistency: Natural ingredients can vary to factors like weather and soil conditions. Synthetic fragrances ensure a consistent scent profile in every batch.
  3. Stability: Synthetic fragrances often have better stability and longer shelf life compared to natural ingredients, which can degrade over time or not react with other ingredients.
  4. Sustainability: Some natural ingredients, like certain flowers or animal products, are not sustainable or ethical to harvest. Synthetic alternatives help reduce environmental impact and avoid animal cruelty.
  5. Variety: Synthetic chemistry allows for the creation of unique scents that do not exist in nature, offering a broader range of fragrance options.
  6. Allergen Control: Natural ingredients can sometimes cause allergic reactions. Synthetic fragrances can be designed to minimise these issues.

To minimise risks, consumers can look for products that are labelled as hypoallergenic or free-from specific chemicals of concern.

For example, The Perfume Oil Company do not use any fragrances or ingredients that contain phthalates or parabens, to protect against unhealthy synthetics and ensure a low-irritation, stable fragrance product.

Perfume oils offer several benefits over traditional alcohol-based perfumes, and are fast becoming popular.

There are many key advantages of perfume oils, which is driving the perfume oil trends:

Longevity

Longer Lasting Scent: Perfume oils tend to last longer on the skin compared to alcohol-based perfumes because oils do not evaporate as quickly. This means the scent can stay on the skin for longer, which is ideal for fragrance-lovers.

Since oil-based fragrances evaporate more slowly, they often provide a more sustained release of scent throughout the day too.

Skin Benefits

Less Irritation: Alcohol in traditional perfumes can dry out the skin, while perfume oils are generally more hydrating and can be beneficial for people with sensitive or dry skin.

Perfume oils also often contain fewer additives and chemicals compared to alcohol-based perfumes, making them a better option for those with sensitivities.

Scent Intensity

Higher Concentration: Perfume oils typically have a higher concentration of fragrance, leading to a more intense and pure scent.

The absence of alcohol allows the true essence of the fragrance to come through, often resulting in a richer and more complex scent profile.

Versatility

Layering: Perfume oils can be easily layered with other products, especially with The Perfume Oil Company collection of personal and home fragrance products. They can also be used in combination with other scents to create a custom fragrance.

Economic

Cost-Effective: Since a little goes a long way, perfume oils are often more economical in the long run. You can apply less product to achieve the desired scent intensity, while products themselves are much more affordable than their designer fragrance counterparts.

Sustainable:

Reduced Impact: Without alcohol, perfume oils release fewer volatile compounds into the air, making them a more environmentally-friendly option.

Many perfume oils, including The Perfume Oil Company products, use low irritation ingredients to appeal to more eco-conscious consumers .

Application:

Ease of Use: Perfume oils often come in roll-on bottles or droppers, allowing for precise application and less wastage. It also ensures that fragrance application is low-irritation compared to aerosol style sprays, which can spread across wide areas.

Overall, perfume oils provide a luxurious, longer-lasting, and more natural alternative to alcohol-based perfumes, making them a popular and ideal choice for fragrance-lovers.
